First showcased at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo as an H5X concept, at that time the Tata Motors garnered so much attention through the H5X concept that people literally started asking about when this SUV will launch at the Indian market.
After the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo, we started to hear the rumours about the prototypes, names and features. Then we started to saw the so many test mules on the road testing with the camouflage which Tata Motors tested on all types of terrains and completed so many kilometres Tata Motors started to tease the name of the SUV.
After so many teasers Tata Motors officially revealed the name of the SUV as Tata Harrier and then revealed the Tata Harrier’s design. So after the almost year completion, Tata Motors finally launched the much awaited, most desired, most beautiful and the most modern looking SUV.
Tata Harrier is based on the Tata Motors Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced Architecture (OMEGA) platform which is derived from the Land Rover‘s legendary D8 platform. So because of the D8 platform, it gives you the solid off-roading capability.
Tata Harrier measures at 4598mm length, 1894mm width and the 1706mm at height and the overall wheelbase measures at 2741mm. Tata Harrier’s ground clearance is 205mm with the boot space of 425 litres which is good.
Tata Motors Harrier gets the power from 2.0-litre 1956 cc in-line 4-cylinders Kryotec turbocharged diesel engine which makes 140bhp of power at the 3,750rpm and the 350nm of torque at the 1750rpm to 2500rpm. This Kryotec engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
Tata Motors also confirmed that there will be an automatic variant available in near future.
Tata Harrier’s suspension setup comes with the independent lower wishbone McPherson Strut with coil spring and anti-roll bar at the front and semi-independent twist blade with Panhard Rod and coil spring at the rear. The stopping power comes from the disc brakes at the front and the drum brakes at the rear.
The wheels have two types of options 235/70 size R16 Steel wheels for the XE and the XM variants and the 235/65 size R17 Alloy wheels for the XT and the XZ variants. The spare wheel also comes with the size of the 235/70 R16 Steel wheel. The fuel tank has a capacity of 50-litres.
The stunning Impact Design 2.0 features great looking proportions with the head-turning road presence. The design also comes with the Xenon HID projector headlights for the top end variant with dual LED DRLs turn indicators.
You also get the 3D LED tail lamps with the sporty piano black finish and outer mirrors with logo projection. You also get the shark fin antenna for all your radio requirements.
On the inside, the Tata Harrier gets the front armrest with cooled storage compartment, glovebox with the laptop tray, 28 types of utility spaces for your mobile phones, cup, bottles, umbrellas etc..
You also get the tilt and telescopically adjustable steering wheel, push-button start, adjustable and foldable ORVM’s and the rear ac vents for the rear passengers.
The Tata Harrier features also comes with the latest and best gadgets and widgets. The Harrier SUV gets the 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a high-resolution display.
The infotainment system gets the features like Android Auto and Apple Car Play for smartphone connectivity. The 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment also gets the navigation system and voice recognition technology.
For the high-quality audio system, the Harrier SUV gets the 4 speakers plus 4 tweeters plus 1 subwoofer and the amplifier which is a total of 9 JBL speakers with the premium 320Watt audio for cabin acoustic experience which specially tuned by the JBL.
The Tata Harrier SUV also gets the steering wheel mounted controls and the 7-inch TFT instrument cluster display for the driver cockpit.
On the safety front, Tata Motors filled the Harrier SUV with class leading features such as 6 airbags (driver, co-driver, seat side & curtain airbags), Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with features like Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Corner Stability Control, Off-Road ABS, Electronic Traction Control, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Hold Control, Hill Descent Control, Roll Over Mitigation, Brake Disc Wiping, Electronic Brake Pre-fill, Hydraulic Brake Assist, Hydraulic Fading Compensation, and Dynamic Wheel Torque by Brake.
You also get the front fog lamps with the cornering function and reverse parking camera. The mighty Tata Harrier SUV will go head to head with the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV 500 and the Renault Captur.
At the current situation, the Hyundai Creta is leading with the quite of margin but the time will tell how much the Tata Motors Harrier SUV will make an impact on the Indian market.
